Word Counter questions

How are words counted?

The counter uses your browser's built-in language rules to find word boundaries, so contractions and non-English scripts are handled sensibly. Numbers count as words, the same way most word processors count them.

Is my text saved or sent anywhere?

No. The counting happens in your browser. Your text is not uploaded or stored, and it disappears when you close the page.

How is reading time worked out?

Reading time assumes 238 words per minute, a common average for adults reading silently. Speaking time assumes 140 words per minute. Your own pace may differ.

Is there a word limit?

There is no set limit. Very long texts, such as a whole book, may update a little more slowly depending on your device.
